Biodegradable, what does that actually mean?
Because we have all been confronted with the consequences of our excess of consumption, we realize that things must be different. To make our living environment beautiful again, as it was once intended.
So we take measures; plastic out or reuse as much as possible. Avoid all kinds of packaging or opt for biodegradable material. In the products for our daily care we also look more and more at what is in them and whether it is good for us and Mother Earth. The latter preferably has 100% hair, for her…. Because what comes from nature also has the greatest chance of success in returning there.
So, what does it actually mean when something is biodegradable? In essence, it is quite simple: if something is biodegradable, it will eventually break down into its basic components and merge into the earth in the right conditions and in the presence of microorganisms, fungi or bacteria. Ideally, but not always, these substances are broken down without leaving any toxins behind.
For example, when a plant product can be broken down into carbon dioxide, water and other naturally occurring minerals, the substance mixes seamlessly back into the soil and leaves no toxins behind. But it keeps paying attention; chemicals and pesticides that have been used on a plant product are therefore left behind!
Biodegradable vs compostable.
To make matters even more confusing, many items are labeled "compostable." Compostable products are all biodegradable, but they are specifically intended for a composting environment. In the right setting, these products break down even faster, usually within 90 days, and leave behind a nutrient-rich organic material called humus that creates a healthy soil environment for new plant growth.
Of course you already guessed it: Elicious goes for those ingredients that Mother Earth lends us, so that they can also be returned after use. To prevent chemicals and / or pesticides from coming along, nothing comes in without a 'clean passport' from an external laboratory!
